A Road Marked by Story, Reflection, and Purpose

After taking some time to rest up, Josh was right back in Florida for a week long AWA men’s leader training where he gathered with all the men who help guide the AWA men’s trips. This was a week where he was able to share the stories of season one, the journey unbound with the men. What most people don’t realize is the need to refill your cup after taking in everyone else’s stories sharing that loss with them sharing the pain that they felt. The week with the men’s leaders was a chance to refill his cup.

A few things realized in season one after taking a couple weeks to really think about it was the common need that people want to share their stories most just don’t give them an avenue to share it. There was a story of Josh stopping at a Harley shop in Florida along the way to take a break and recharge his phone where he randomly met an army veteran who shared his moral injury without even knowing it and the frustration and pain that he had that he hadn’t been able to share with anyone else moments like this make you realize the whole world is holding things in. It just takes someone willing to sit and listen.

Over the course of several days, The Journey Unbound team travelled from Tennessee through Alabama and Florida, capturing meaningful moments, honest conversations, and stories shaped by service, loss, healing, and faith. What began at a quiet barn in Tennessee, where the first scenes were filmed, quickly became something more than a road trip. It became a space for real conversations to unfold.

In the early days, filming centred around the foundation of the journey—why it exists and the role the American Warrior Association plays in supporting those navigating moral injury. As the team moved down the open road, long stretches of travel were paired with intentional stops, each one creating room for reflection and connection. Along the way, stories were shared that carried both the weight of loss and the strength of healing.

As the journey reached the coast, the pace slowed and the depth of conversation grew. Time spent near the water created space for honesty and vulnerability, where the noise of everyday life gave way to something quieter and more personal. Moments of reflection—both shared and alone—became just as important as the miles travelled.

The road continued east, marked by long rides and steady progress, as more stories were captured and the purpose of the journey became increasingly clear. Each stop reinforced the same truth: the effects of service do not end when someone returns home, and the path toward healing is often walked in community.

The final day brought a sense of both closure and anticipation. Time spent on the water, conversations that grounded the experience, and one last ride along the coastline at sunset provided a fitting end to the trip. The journey home was long, but steady—over 2,000 miles travelled with a consistent sense of purpose, protection, and gratitude.

This journey may have reached its end on the road, but what was captured along the way is only the beginning. The stories, the conversations, and the impact they carry are just starting to take shape.

The Journey Unbound

In The Journey Unbound, Josh carries his lived experience with him into every conversation. As the host of the series, his mission is simple but profound: meet people where they are, listen deeply, and walk alongside them as they share honestly about life during and after service.

Josh’s idea for the series grew from a desire to tell real stories. He wants to give voice to experiences that are too often left in the shadows. Through authentic conversations with military members, veterans, and first responders, The Journey Unbound creates space for vulnerability and connection, showing that healing is not only possible, it’s happening right now.

At its heart, The Journey Unbound is about reclaiming voice, identity, and hope. By sharing honest conversations about PTSD, moral injury, and life after service, Josh and the American Warrior Association are reminding us that no one has to fight alone. These stories are not about brokenness, they are about courage in its truest form: the courage to confront pain, to seek community, and to step forward into healing. And this is only the beginning.
